About Us

We are a small family run firm working out of Brandon Village near Durham City, specialising in block paving and flagged paving for driveways, footpaths and patios, working only in the domestic sector directly for the general public.

Genuinely established in February 1994 by the owner Richard Gilhespy, Hallmark Driveways has carried out hundreds of installations throughout the North East of England.

Richard controls the business at every stage, from quotation to the supervision, construction and finalising of each and every installation.

He has been in the highways and airfield construction business, specialising in surfacing since August 1968, gaining vast experience of all types of construction both home and overseas. He returned from the Persian Gulf in 1979 taking up a position with a Major Road surfacing company in the North East, being responsible for surfacing many of the areas roads and motorways, in Sunderland, Durham, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear and Teesside.

He was elected a Member of the Institute of Asphalt Technology in March 1982 and elected a Member of the Institution of Highways and Transportation in July 1993. He obtained Street Works qualification (Registration No 935416760) in December 1993 which includes the installation of modular paving. i.e. block paving. We are therefore well qualified and experienced to install your work to the highest of standards. This provides you with a company that is big enough and with the experience to cope, but is small enough to care, giving you a personal, professional, expert and friendly service.
